First 100+ Bird Day!

Birds were on the move last night and we have a very good morning of banding!  We banded 107 new birds and 9 recaptures of 15 different species.  The first two hours after daylight was extremely busy with bird activity dropping off significantly by 9:00am .  Common Yellowthoats were the major player today with 60 of them banded.  We also had a decent numbers of vireos with 9 White-eyeds and 10 Red-eyeds.

The first species to reach the 100 mark was the Painted Bunting with the banding of 4 of them today.  At the beginning of the season I would have never guessed that Painted Buntings would have been the first species to reach 100 individuals banded this season.
