The Kiawah Island Bubble

CAPTAIN SAM'S
So apparently, there is a tropical storm but that did not stop of us from trying to band this morning. Despite having rain all around us, Kiawah was dry.  We have seen this phenomenon a lot over the years where rain showers approaching Kiawah split up and go right around us.  I call it the "Kiawah Island Bubble" and it was in full effect this morning.

Here is an example of the "Bubble" from three different weather apps all at the same time.

A strong SE wind prevented us from opening all of the nets this morning.  We were only able to open the 12 nets along the backside of the station that was somewhat sheltered from the wind.  There was not much bird activity and in about 1.75 hours time we only banded 2 birds and had 1 recapture.  We decided to pack up early before the "bubble" burst and we got wet.

LITTLE BEAR
The Little Bear crew, still unaware of how to use "Kiawah Island Bubble" to their advantage, decided to not band this morning. :)
