"Winter Mode"

The wind finally let up a bit today which probably contributed to the slight increase in our numbers with 49 new birds and 18 recaptures of 10 different species.  We are now officially in "winter mode".  From here until the end of the season, Yellow-rumped Warblers will most likely dominate our daily totals.  Most of the neotropical migrants have already passed through KIBS but I'm sure there are a few stragglers out there who will stop by for a brief visits in the coming weeks.  Swamp Sparrows started arriving a couple weeks ago and have been the dominant species until recently when a Song Sparrow showed a little spike in their abundance.  A White-throated Sparrow that was originally banded on 4/3/11 was recaptured today, but we are still waiting for their first push to arrive.
