Captain Sams:
It was an ominous day full of cloudy skies and chilly conditions. We had a somewhat decent turnout of birds with 32 total individuals caught (14 of which were recaptures). The majority of these were Yellow-rumped Warblers (Myrtle), but we also had the usual Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Swamp Sparrows, and a cute little Palm Warbler (eastern subspecies).
The best part of the day came at around 9:30 when I was sitting at the table processing the Palm Warbler. What to my wondering eyes appeared but Brittany holding a Sharp-shinned Hawk! This little cutie was caught out at net 27, and he sure was adorable. Wentao and I already banded a Sharp-shinned Hawk earlier in the season, which meant it was Brittany's turn to get to band one of these guys! It is always exciting to have raptors in the hand, and we sure hope this guy lives a wonderful life!

Little Bear:
Today was a lot slower than we have been most of the season. The wind was a little more gusty than normal but it did not hinder us from still banding. The rain that was more inland skirted near Kiawah but still did not touch us. We had a little drizzle during this morning but not enough to get us wet. We ended our day with just 10 birds, yep, it was not an epic day like most but with todays weather it was definitely a low number day for us. Hopefully tomorrow will clear up a little bit and bring us some more birds before we finish out the season!
