Captain Sam's
It was a pretty muggy, slow morning out at Captain Sam's and also lacked the interesting first-of-season birds we caught yesterday. We ended with 22 new birds and 7 recaptures of 10 species. We are expecting a cold front to push through Thursday night so bird numbers may pick up Friday morning. We're just hoping Hurricane Irma doesn't head our way and cause as many problems as Hurricane Mathew did last year, but at least it's not during peak migration.

Little Bear
Today was a little slower than the past couple of days. Little bear ended up capturing 39 new birds and 6 recaptures, with a diversity of 12 species. The birds were very active at sunrise, we caught almost half of our daily total on the first net run.
The morning started out a little breezy, keeping the insects at bay for an hour. Cumulonimbus clouds from a storm off the coast created a beautiful scene as we waited for the first net run. Little bear had its first White-eyed Vireo of the season. A declining capture rate and the late summer heat urged us to close a little bit early today.
