Captain Sam's:
Even with the high winds, Captain Sam's still came out with a total of 35 birds today! With only 2 of those birds being recaptures. We had to keep some of our nets closed due to the high winds. As the day continued, we ended up closing more of our nets. I'm hoping tomorrow's weather will mellow out but we can only hope for the best!

Little Bear:
We certainly had high hopes of larger numbers going into this week. Unfortunately, the mass migration that occurred last night was stunted just North of us. Unfavorable weather conditions seemed to be the root of the problem. We had high winds at the site all morning, which progressively got stronger pushing past 15 mph. If we weren't experiencing so much wind, we would have been able to keep open several more nets and probably caught a decent amount of birds. Instead we captured nine new individuals for the day and ended up having to shut down early.

Birdcast.info is an enjoyable site to explore full of news regarding bird migration and research. They've also recently started posting "Lights Out" advisories. Bright artificial lights, particulary in cities, are problematic because they attract and confuse migratory birds. Fatal collisions are usually a result. We can all do our part by turning off both outdoor and indoor lights, especially during spring and fall migration.
