We caught some really awesome birds at Captain Sam's today! Four of these were first-of-season birds: the Hooded Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, and Gray-cheeked Thrush. The Gray-cheeked Thrush was particularly exciting because it was a "lifer" for both Dan and me. Some of the other highlights of the day included three Indigo Buntings and three Yellow-breasted Chats. Not too shabby!

Little Bear:
Numbers picked up today with 35 new birds banded and 7 recaps. We noticed that two of our recaptures were not banded this year, and decided to look back in the KIBS database to see when they were banded. The Brown Thrasher and Northern Mockingbird pictured below were both banded in 2015, the first year of banding at Little Bear! Both of these individuals were banded as after-hatch years, making them at least 5 years old today! They have been re-caught almost every year since their original banding, and both appeared to be healthy and in good condition so we hope to see them again next year.
