Continued North Winds Bring 2 FOS

Another blustery, yet successful day at the banding station culminated in 81 new birds banded, including 2 new species for the season: Eastern Phoebe and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Steady winds last night from the north boded well for birds migrating south, however a storm system over Virginia and Pennsylvania likely blocked bigger numbers of birds from arriving at Kiawah. Other highlights today included our seconds of season Nashville Warbler, Hooded Warbler, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet, as well as our highest number of species captured in a day this season, 22!

Eastern Phoebe (HY, sex unknown)

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (HY, male)

Nashville Warbler (HY, male)
