Captain Sams:
Today was surprisingly busier than expected, with a total of 32 birds. Unsurprisingly, our two most common birds for the day were Northern Waterthrushes (10) and Common Yellowthroats (9). We'll be experts at ageing these species in no time! Another notable catch was a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, a species we haven't had in awhile. We also fit in lots of net repairs and are ready to go back out tomorrow!

Little Bear:
The streak of slow days continued today at Little Bear, with 14 total birds, 9 new and 5 recaptures. Unfortunately, mosquitos were plentiful, buzzing in front of our heads and around our legs as we walked and checked nets. We captured a few charismatic species today, including a Red-eyed Vireo, a White-eyed Vireo, and a Prairie Warbler. One of our recaptures was also quite interesting; a female Painted Bunting banded in 2020!
It is expected that a cold front will be coming in at the end of this coming week, which means things could be picking up here soon. In the meantime, we are looking forward to what the coming days might bring to our nets!
