And the wait goes on ...

CAPTAIN SAM'S
We experienced east winds overnight which are not ideal conditions for bringing birds to KIBS.  That proved true this morning when we only banded 17 new birds and had 4 recaptures of 7 different species.  Highlights today included a Baltimore Oriole and two adult male Yellow Warblers.  Unbirdy conditions will likely continue for the next several days as a high pressure system is sitting over the southeastern US.  Currently, a cold front is moving across the Midwest and will hopefully reach the Carolinas on Monday or Tuesday bringing with it many birds.

LITTLE BEAR
Two short showers this morning provided a slight flurry of activity but not the numbers of yesterday. We banded 25 new birds and 3 recaptures of 9 species for the day.The highlights were Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Veery which were the first recorded for the site. The catch appears to be mostly local birds but migrants such as the Yellow Warbler, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat and Veery are beginning to appear in our catches. At the moment we don't know what to expect with this new site which hasn't been formally recorded - so each new day brings more surprises!
