Captain Sam's
Today we started to see the beginning of Common Yellowthroat season. On our first day back to Captain Sam's since the storm we saw a larger number of birds than we have for the past week with a total of 40 new birds and 7 recaptures. A little less than half of the new birds were Common Yellowthroats but we did get another Prothonotary Warbler along with a few Northern Waterthrush and an Ovenbird. Hopefully the season will start to pick up in the next few days.

We did not do as well as Captain Sam's today with 21 new birds and 7 recaptures of 11 species. We had our usual migrant and resident suspects this morning. The most interesting capture was a female Painted Bunting that we banded as a second-year on September 14, 2015 at Little Bear. It was the first time we recaptured her since we banded her last fall. We also added new net 18 yesterday and were able to open it for the first time today, but it did not catch anything unfortunately. We are definitely looking forward to when migration picks up!
