Captain Sam's
Even without favorable wind direction, above average amounts of birds keep arriving. Today Captain Sam's captured 93 new birds and 10 recaptures of 17 different species. Common Yellowthroats are the most commonly banded species in the fall at KIBS. Because of that, sometimes we don't think of photographing them very often but the plumage of an adult male is truly stunning.

We also got more details on the recaptured Common Yellowthroat from Chester River Field Research Station in Chestertown, Maryland. It was a hatch-year bird previously banded on 9/8/2017, and recaptured at (KIBS) yesterday 9/21/2017.

Little Bear
The volume of birds at Little Bear has been very consistent over the past week. We finished the day with 93 new birds and 4 recaps of 19 different species.
Seven species of the warbler family, Parulidae, were represented, including Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Yellow Warbler, Palm Warbler, and Prairie Warbler.
