It was also a pretty good day for warblers, the highlight being a hatch-year male Yellow-throated Warbler! It's a rare catch at KIBS even though they breed and reside in SC year round. This was the yellow lored subspecies because of the yellow in the lores (the area between the eye and the upper base of the bill) seen in the picture below. We also caught 2 Hooded Warblers that made a great comparison shot between a hatch-year male and a hatch-year female. Hatch-year female Hooded Warblers will usually not have any black on the head while hatch-year males will have a full black "hood" with some yellow mottling. As an adult, the female can almost have a full black "hood" like the male but she will always have at least some yellow on the chin.
