Rainy day clouds

The same clouds that threatened the eclipse viewing for many people today also caused us to have a late start this morning. Being on the coast often makes it hard to predict the weather because of the heat and humidity. It is not uncommon for scattered showers to quickly develop off shore and soon make their way on shore, causing problems at the banding station. Our day today started by waiting out some short showers that popped up just as we were about to head out to the nets on Captain Sam's. Even though we had a late start we still caught about the same number of birds as yesterday. Our variety of species was low at a total of 6 species today, we still captured 18 individuals with 13 of them being newly banded and 5 recaptures.

Due to threat of more showers we closed a little early. This gave us plenty of time to also enjoy the eclipse from the beach. Kiawah Island was just outside of the zone of totality so darkness was very brief, but still exciting to see. The weather was cloudy but held off just enough to get good views of the entire process.
