Captain Sam's is back up and running

Captain Sam's
We are happy to say that both banding stations managed to make it through the storm surges brought on by Hurricane Irma with minimal damage.  Aaron assessed the storm damage at Captain Sam’s yesterday and ended up taking the time setup several of the nets which allowed us to band today.  It was a fairly productive morning considering the reduced effort with 20 new birds and 1 recapture.  We had a decent species diversity with 12 species being represented including two first of the seasons, Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Palm Warbler.  Over the morning, all but two of the remaining nets were set up.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (HY, male)

Little Bear
After spending the morning at Captain Sam’s we went out and assessed the storm damage at Little Bear.  It was apparent that the tide made it all the way into the band station area, bringing in another inch or so of water into our foot paths.  Other than the additional water, Little Bear made it through the storm unscathed.   The nets are going to be setup tomorrow and we should be all set to resume banding on Friday.
