The Last of the Thunderstorms

 CAPTAIN SAMS

We were able to make it out this morning but it only lasted a couple hours as thunderstorms moved in around 9am. In that time, we captured 5 new birds and 8 recaptures of 9 species. Now that the rain has passed, the birds should begin migrating again over the next couple of days.

LITTLE BEAR

Wet. Very wet. Super ultra extra fully soaking wet. That about sums up our day at Little Bear! As Liz and I drove up to LB this morning there was a bit of light show over the ocean, but birds be needing some bands I say! Around 8-8:30 Liz saw some weather moving our way so at 8:50 we started to close down nets. Liz and I both got two nets done before the first bout of rain absolutely dumped on us. We ran ahead to collapse the rest and the rain let up. After meeting up and furrowing like one more net the rain came back for revenge, this time it was angry. Thunder! Lightning! Tornadoes! Hurricanes! Earthquakes! Dragons! As the wrath of Gaia reigned upon us we tried our best to furrow the nets and get back. The storm let up as we got back and we walked to the truck in defeat. Sopping, wet, defeat. Before this all happened we were able to catch a whole 12 birds, 5 of which were recaps! Remember your rain coats people!
