Captain Sam's
Today at Captain Sam’s we had 8 new birds and 5 recaptures comprised of 11 species.  We have finally made it passed the 500 new bird mark for the season.  At this point in the season in past years, we have usually been well above 600 new birds for the season.  The low numbers are likely due to the weather pattern we have been stuck in.  We have yet to have a cold front come through and overnight winds have mainly been out of the south which is not conducive for fall migration.  Though we haven’t had that many migrants the past few days, it seems we have had a small dispersal of resident birds.  Today we had several new Northern Cardinals and a new Carolina Chickadee.

Little Bear

At Little Bear we had a total of 23 birds captured. Many of the birds were recaptures today which is a sign that the winds are currently holding the birds here instead of pushing them South. This allowed us another glimpse at a few birds we've had in the past but we did get a first of season Western Palm Warbler which was very exciting.
