Captain Sam's
Yet another slow day on Captain Sam's. Another round of off shore storms threatened our morning and had us opening nets a little later. Once we did open, winds started to pick up. We were able to stay open, between the wind and sun and slow capture rates, enough to catch a total of 9 birds. One of the slowest capture days we have had yet with 3 recaptures and 6 newly banded birds. This left plenty of time to enjoy some of our resident species such as this after hatch-year Carolina Chickadee that paid us a visit.

Carolina Chickadee (After Hatch-year, unknown sex)

Little Bear

It was a slow and breezy morning at Little Bear with 10 new birds and 4 recaptures, comprised of 6 species.  The lack of birds gave us the opportunity to setup the last two remaining nets, bringing us up to 20 nets at Little Bear.  We should see our first real push of migrants this weekend with a frontal boundary coming through tomorrow.  The front may have a little rain and breezy conditions associated with but we should still be able to operate the stations.
