FOS Cooper's Hawk

Captain Sam's

Today at Captain Sam's we captured 19 new birds and 2 recaptures. We had a great variety of birds this morning including the first of the season Cooper's Hawk. This hawk was a juvenile male and was absolutely gorgeous! To learn more about Cooper's Hawk check out the American Bird Conservancy page. We also captured quite a bit of warblers today with a total of 11! Hopefully this continues throughout the season!

Little Bear

Things picked up today at Little Bear as well, and a total of 17 new birds of 8 species were banded-- a decent amount, considering we had to close nets pretty early due to intense heat. We recorded a temperature increase of 6 degrees over a time span of about 30 minutes, and things were only getting hotter from there. Hoping for some cooler temperatures and good winds in the coming days so we can catch more migrants!
