Banding was pretty limited at Captain Sam's today due to a heavy rain shower (or free shower for us, since we got caught in it) that caused us to close nets early. The highlight of the day for me was a lifer and our FOS Acadian Flycatcher! This individual was a hatch year bird, as shown by the buffy edging to its greater coverts.

After we finished banding for the day, Michael, Kristin, Meredith, and I went out with Aaron to take down some signs in preparation for Hurricane Florence. We also conducted a Piping Plover survey and Kristin captured this great photo of a Reddish Egret through our scope.

Little Bear
We had a slow day today due to rain and then heat. We did catch our FOS Yellow-Breasted Chat for Little Bear. This species is very fun to watch during breeding season with their loud, flappy, aerial displays and bizarre calls. They seem to have a ton of personality. Until recently, they were in Parulidae (wood warblers) but have since been moved to their own family, Icteriidae.
Unfortunately, this will be the last day of banding for awhile as we prepare for evacuations due to Hurricane Florence. Both sites will be getting taken down tomorrow until maybe next week. Stay safe!
