FOS Summer Tanager!

Captain Sam's

Today we were spared a little from the heat with overcast skies this morning. I'm really enjoying seeing these more southern birds that I don't have a chance to see in Canada. Overall it was a slow day but we caught a lovely Summer Tanager.

Summer Tanager (hatch year, female)

Yellow-billed Cuckoo (hatch year, unknown sex)

Little Bear

Although today was more overcast and slightly windy, it was still very hot, which meant we had to close nets early. The wind did make the day more enjoyable for the banders though! We caught a total of 6 birds (5 new, 1 recapture), for a total of 4 species. The birds were beautiful, and so was this gorgeous sunrise (photo by Meredith).
