Despite things being on the slower side today, we still caught some great birds! We processed a total of 16 birds, 9 of which were recaptures. This was convenient because we accidentally left the "new capture" data sheets at home. Some of the highlights of the day included a feisty male Eastern Towhee, a striking female Black-and-white Warbler, and my favorite individual bird of the season so far:

LITTLE BEAR
This morning was a lot like yesterday with 24 birds captured, mostly all on our first two net checks. Our proportion of recaptured birds is increasing, with 10 of today's visitors already sporting bands. Most were birds that we banded over the past couple days, but we did have 2 adult Carolina Chickadees from previous seasons. It's always great to get to see these birds and know that some of our residents have survived another trip around the sun. With little wind and scattered storms in the forecast for tonight, we're likely in for another hot and muggy morning tomorrow, without much migration. But hopes for capturing a new species are still high- today I heard my first Common Ground-Dove of the season calling from within our mist net array. Keeping our fingers-crossed!
