Captain Sam's:
We had another very solid day at CS with over 100 birds captured yet again! We were mostly swamped with Gray Catbirds as we have been lately, but we had a good number of Kinglets today, a Mourning Dove, and a first (and probably the only one we'll get!) of season Black-billed Cuckoo! It was a young hatch-year bird with a yellow eye-ring, and we were all very excited to catch one.

Little Bear:
It was another busy morning for the 2 of us at Little Bear, as we caught just as many birds as Captain Sam's (122). Little Bear has been on an amazing run for the past 9 days, with 6 of those days reaching over 100 birds. We're well ahead of pace to catch more birds than ever before at Little Bear this season, and we're excited to see what all else we get as we begin our final month of banding. The Gray Catbirds continue to boost our numbers way up; they comprised 56% of the individuals captured today. We didn't catch anything else too unusual; a Yellow-breasted Chat (starting to get late for them) and our 16th Tufted Titmouse of the season (getting closer to the 2017 record of 23) were our most notable captures. While I'm sure there will still be plenty of Catbirds around, we're anticipating a slight slow down for the rest of the week. Here's to hoping that some more new and interesting species find their way into our nets regardless!
