Well, the cold front delivered. The northerly winds brought several first-of-the-seasons! Swamp Sparrows, Myrtle Warblers (the eastern subspecies of yellow-rumped warbler), a Savannah Sparrow, Golden-crowned Kinglet, and "Yellow" Palm Warblers were all firsts for Captain Sam's this year.
Despite the consistently strong winds, we managed to band 168 birds and recaptured 8 others of 19 different species. Our most common birds of the day were the Gray Catbird, Common Yellowthroat, and "Western" Palm Warbler.

Little Bear
We had our strongest cold front of the season come through
yesterday afternoon, bringing with it fall weather, birds, and strong winds. Due to the strong winds, we were only able to
open one of our nets for a very short period of time. In the forty minutes that the net was open,
we caught 3 new birds including our first-of-the-season Song Sparrow. With only being able to run one net at Little
Bear, we decided that our efforts would be better spent at Captain Sam’s and
ended up spending most of the morning out there.
