Today was a great day for banding. Even though there were only a total of 18 newly banded birds and 10 recaptures for the day, we managed to catch our first Eastern Screech Owl of the season. This little guy (pictured below) was a hatch year still containing some of its fledge feathers, making it look like it needs another cup of coffee to start its morning. This young bird was very cooperative while we were placing the band on their foot.

The banding staff is great and is extremely knowledgeable, making banding easy and fun, while learning new information about each bird that is captured.
The most exciting bird for me today other than the Eastern Screech Owl, was the Northern Waterthrush. This was a first time bird for me to handle and band. I was extremely happy to add a new species to my banded list!
