Another one bites the Dust

Captain Sam's:

Today was a great day! Although it seemed a little slow, we still had a total of 87 birds! Out of those birds, 13 of them were recaptures. Our most interesting bird of the day would be a House Wren that was banded last year on November 1, 2019. Must have decided to migrate early this year. I hope, even though the weather and bird cast is predicting a few more slow days, that we catch something cool and exciting. It could be an old banded bird or even a new species and I would still be super ecstatic about it!

Little Bear:

It was another warm and humid day at Little Bear, and a bit slower than yesterday with 69 total captures (60 new and 9 recaptures). Mixed in with all the Catbirds, we were excited to see a lovely hatch-year male Hooded Warbler, an after hatch-year Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and a FOS for Little Bear: a Tennessee Warbler! These small, yellow-green warblers breed in Canada's boreal forests, and migrate through here on their way to winter in Central and South America. We look for white undertail coverts on Tennessee Warblers to separate them from similar-looking Orange-crowned Warblers, which have yellow undertail coverts.
