Today's nets include 14, 2, and 0. These three nets occur within a narrow patch of high ground along the edge of the open saltmarsh on the west side and a shrubby high marsh on the east side.
Net 14
Net 14 was first used in 2011 and has been in use ever since. This net located in a small hummock surrounded by saltmarsh. The vegetation in the immediate area of the net is mostly wax myrtle with some taller trees such as red bay, toothache tree, and black cherry. This net has captured 3,769 birds (3,225 new birds, 544 recaptures). This net is located very close to the banding table and if we counted birds that were recaptured after being banded in the same we could probably add several hundred more. Net 14 is one of the better nets at the site and on a good migration day it could have 30+ birds in it on the first net run of the morning.

Net 2
Net 2 has been around since the beginning and in it's 12 years has captured 4,088 birds (3487 new, 601 recaptures)! This net is located on another hummock with low marsh on one side and high marsh on the other. This is a very productive net due to it bisecting a narrow patch of high ground and being surrounded by saltmarsh.

Net 0
Net 0 is a newer addition that was put in a few years ago in an attempt to catch a flock tree swallows that were feeding on wax myrtle berries (in the tree on the right in the photo below). We never caught the swallows there but this net caught a lot of other birds so it stayed. It was named "0" because it was supposed to only be a temporary net. This net is located within a few yards of net 2 creating a wide "V" shape. Net 0 has captured 1,485 birds (1,238 new, 247 recaptures) in its 3.5 years of use.
