Windier conditions reduced our capture rate today but we still had 34 new birds and 14 recaps of 8 different species. The highlight of the day was our 2nd Dark-eyed Junco of the season. This is also only the 3rd ever for KIBS with the first one coming back in 2012. Juncos are fairly common winter residents of South Carolina but are rare on Kiawah Island (and along the coast in general). They also can be found breeding in mountains of South Carolina during the summer which is close to the southern most breeding limit for this species in the eastern United States.
