Oh Sweet Canada

Captain Sam's:

Today at Captain Sam's it started out really quiet and we weren't expecting much. We didn't end up with many birds today, but we did pull a Canada Warbler out of a net in our first run! It's the first one that KIBS has caught since 2017, and the first one at Captain Sam's since 2013! Canada Warblers breed up the Appalachians and all across Canada, and as far south as the mountains of North Carolina. But when they make their migration south in the fall, they cut further west through Louisiana and Texas and funnel over land southward to their wintering grounds. Easier to migrate over land than over open water! So there aren't many that migrate along the east coast of the US on their way south, but we were lucky enough to catch this hatch-year female on her first southbound migration. Good luck, oh sweet Canada Warbler.

Little Bear:

Today was a bust at LB. We didn't catch much but the fun part was running out of gas on our Argo and having to walk back after the day was done. It wasn't a bad walk and we at least saw some great birds like some Roseate Spoonbills sitting along the golf course.

It seems like tomorrow will be the same thing, so we will see if we can at least get some birds or see something great!
