Captain Sams:
Today was a slow day for Captain Sam's with 23 new and 16 recaptured individuals. We still took to the trails in the morning for bobcat duty, tracing our trails constantly to get birds before the wild cat could have a chance. As the morning got later, we were able to leave our posts and resume the normal loops, since no sign of the bobcat was detected, and the bobcat would have moved on from the area or begun resting for the day. Catbirds were the dominant species, but we also caught a Swamp Sparrow, Blackpoll Warbler, and Black-and-white Warbler.

Little Bear:
Today was a huge drop of capture rate for Little Bear. We ended our day with a total of 25 newly banded birds and 19 recaptured birds. We did however catch a few more fall warblers today. It is nice seeing the Myrtle Warblers and seeing a few sparrows hopping around. We had a few recaptures that were from previous years and most of them were Catbirds but the one that stood out the most was a Swamp Sparrow that was banded in October 2021 as a hatch year. This cutie was absolutely beautiful and did shy away from the camera for sure. The photo of this famous capture is shown below! Even with this slow day, there are some upcoming days that have some good winds. I am hoping this is the push we get that gives us more winter birds!
