We were expecting to have a busier day today because of forecasted north winds, but last night's rain seemed to deter the birds from moving in the numbers we expected. We still had a good day, catching 52 new birds and 5 recaptures. What we did have was a wide variety of birds, with 15 different species captured, which is the most diverse array since our first day of the season. The highlight of the day was an after hatch year male Prothonotary Warbler. Like the Northern Cardinal, this bird's name has religious roots. The Prothonotary Warbler is named for the yellow robed clerks of the catholic church.
