Captain Sam's
This morning was a bit on the slower side again with 31 new birds and 21 recaptures, comprised of 11 species.  The next few days will likely be similar to today but there is hope in our future with a cold front moving in for the weekend.  Over the past few days, we have had a return of several of our winter residents which is always exciting.  Today we captured a Swamp Sparrow that was originally banded as a hatch-year on November 13, 2015 and a House Wren that was banded October 29, 2015.  The most interesting return we had was a Common Yellowthroat that was originally banded on November 13, 2012.  She was captured several times in 2013 and 2014 but was surprisingly absent for the 2015 season.

Little Bear
Today was another relatively slow day with 40 new birds, 18 recaptures, all of 10 species. Out of the 58 total birds, 38 of them were Gray Catbirds. Catbirds this time of year are like Common Yellowthroats from a few weeks ago in terms of numbers. The Yellow-rumped warblers are steadily trickling in. Soon they will be here. Yellow-rumped warbler numbers usually increase late October to early November here in the Southern US. Much of this is dependent on the weather. If we get some cold fronts that come through, that should help push them down. On the other hand, if the temperature stays warmer, we may not see them in high numbers until after the fall migration season is over for us.
