Friday's Results: An Unexpected Record Day!

We set a new record today - the most birds banded in a single day during the fall at KIBS!  We banded 244 new birds and 7 recaptures of 24 different species.  Common Yellowthroats made yet another comeback with 113 of them banded.  Gray Catbirds were a far second with 33 banded, and American Redstarts took third with 24 banded.  Black-throated Blue Warblers and Palm Warblers rounded out the top 5, each with 17 individuals banded.  There were many Highlights-of-the-Day:  EASTERN PHOEBE (first of the season), CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER (first of the fall, and only the second banding record for KIBS), and PHILADELPHIA VIREO (the first banding record ever for KIBS)!

I was not expecting the extraordinary results that we had today.  The weather overnight seemed just so-so for migration but I guess there was something that the birds liked.  It will be interesting to see what tomorrow will bring.

Will, Meghan, DeeAnne, and Michael - you guys did an awesome job today!
