We had a pretty swell day with a good number of birds. Our friends at the conservancy brought out a group of onlookers who aided with some superb scribing for our busy morning. With 124 newly banded birds and 28 recaps we brought in a couple first of seasons for Captain Sam's. These included a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Orange-crowned Warblers and yes, a Golden-crowned Kinglet. We also brought in the site's first adult White-crowned Sparrow, which was a pleasant surprise.

Little Bear:
Rumor grew of migration in the West, whispers of a nameless flock and the band of power perceived its time had now come.
As the days shorten and November inches closer and closer, we've been talking about how the season was starting to dwindle and that maybe if we could just get a good west-northwest wind, we might get one more big day at Little Bear.
Well my excellent and admiral hobbits, today seemed to line up for us and we saw 20 species come into our nets, we banded 90 new birds and recaptured 14 for a total of 104 birds in only four hours!
The beacons were lit and Little Bear called for aid, our feathered friends came in droves, 60 of which came in our first net run. We used our headlamps, our most beloved lights, when all other lights went out, to extract the first few birds of the morning like this Ruby-crowned Kinglet:

We were forced to close early today for unforeseen (thanks a lot Galadriel) reasons, but we will return to our thrones at the banding station tomorrow!
