Birds Take Holidays Off Too?

I believe the birds were celebrating Labor Day today and took the day off.  We only banded 2 new birds and had 5 recaptures of 4 different species.  Our last bird was captured at 7:40 am and did not catch anything else the rest of the day.

During our "down time" today we found a few ways to keep ourselves entertained:

1.  We invented a game that consisted of tossing pine cones in a milk crate.  Official scoring and rules yet to be determined . . .

2.  Vicki captured an Eastern Glass Lizard.  Glass lizards do not have legs and closely resemble snakes at first glance.  They are very common at KIBS and like to sun themselves in our walking trails.

3.  Fish falling from the sky.  An osprey landed in the pine tree right above the banding table.  When the bird noticed us sitting below, it took off with its prey.  All the sudden we heard something hit the ground right next to us and their laid a mullet still alive and flopping around.
