Another nippy morning graced us with some unexpected pleasantries. As it was Beth's last day of the season, her lovely mother came by the station to experience some of Beth's fine work first hand. We've made quite the discovery recently. As we have previously experienced when my mother visited, Beth's mom too brought a Cooper's Hawks with her. Astonishing! Mothers = Cooper's Hawks here at KIBS. Quite a strange correlation, but nonetheless evidently true. This time we had a second year female in our nets. A truly elegant and powerful creature as seen below.

Right at closing we caught a House Finch, which was the very last bird of the day and Beth's last bird that she'd band at KIBS for the season. It was a bonus that it was the first finch she had ever banded too!

Little Bear:
Today was even slower than yesterday, despite the wind calming down a bit. We only caught 13 birds this morning, all of species that we've gotten pretty use to seeing over the past few weeks. We're anxiously awaiting something exciting to blow our way, but will probably have to wait a little bit longer. Rainy weather is in the forecast for tomorrow morning, and that will likely hinder our ability to catch very many birds, if we get to try at all.
