Today was yet another slow day at Captain Sam's with the exception of a Baltimore Oriole. Baltimore Orioles can migrate as far south as Colombia, although they can also be found in South Carolina throughout the winter. If you'd like to bring these birds to your backyard, leave slices of oranges or even grape jelly as they are attracted to ripe fruit. Interestingly enough, the Baltimore Oriole and the western Bullock's Oriole were once considered the same species known as the Northern Oriole. This was due in most part to overlap in their range in the Great Plains and some hybridization between the two species there.

Out at Little Bear things were a little busier, with 20 new birds and 10 recaptures of 11 different species. The temperature climbed very quickly in the site this morning and we had to close down due to heat at 10 AM.
