A "pool" of Northern Waterthrushes

We had a fairly good morning for this time of year with 39 new birds and 4 recaptures, comprised of 10 species.  Once again, migrants made up the bulk of catch with a good number of Northern Waterthush and Prairie Warbler being banded.  I’m not sure if we can base anything on the first 3 days of banding but it seems to shaping up to be a good Northern Waterthrush year with 30 individuals banded so far.  Over the past five years, our season average of Northern Waterthush new bandings has been about 85 with the peak of their migration occurring in early September.  Northern Waterthrush preferred habitat are areas of wooded thickets with stagnant or slow moving water and with the fairly wet summer we have had, Captain Sam’s is currently an ideal spot for migrating waterthrushes.
