Captain Sams:
Bird activity slow down a little bit today but we still banded 49 new birds and 13 recaptures. We didn't add any new species today but we did reach a banding "milestone" with the 80,000th bird banded on my permit since I started banding in SC in 2009. Fittingly, the 80,000th bird was none other than a Common Yellowthroat. This is by far the most common bird that we band on Kiawah Island. In fact, we have banded 16,848 of them over the last 14 years. We have only banded 210 of them so far a Captain Sams this year. I would guess that we will have about 800 more of them coming in the next month and a half.

Little Bear:
There was a little less activity at Little Bear today compared to the last few days, but we managed to band 27 new birds and process 5 recaptures. While we mostly captured the usual species such as Common Yellowthroat, Northern Waterthrush, and Painted Bunting, we also banded 2 more Traill's Flycatchers and 2 more Yellow Warblers. One of the Yellow Warblers was an adult female and was an intensely bright yellow, especially in the sunlight. With the weather, the water levels have gone down drastically and there have been no more alligator sightings, so hopefully both of these trends continue.
