LISP it is!

Captain Sam's:

Today was quite a dreary day. It was very humid out and was a lot warmer than it has been for the past few days. We managed to capture a total of 42 birds with only 23 of them being newly banded! So, we had a lot of birds hanging around from prior banding days. I am hoping the storm coming in tomorrow holds off and that we can at least see what tomorrow will bring. Since this storm is curving over us in the upper states, it has limited the number of birds that would be migrating through. Maybe we might capture the few that try to make it through it!

Little Bear:

We went out today with some low expectations, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised by what we captured and banded. Overall we banded 24 new birds and processed 5 recaptures. We did successfully catch all the species we guessed we would on our drive out to the station and we caught some others too. Just yesterday Little Bear had its first Tennessee Warbler and today we had two more! One for each of us. Great little, stout warbler. Naturally, we caught a first of the season despite how slow it was. A Lincoln's Sparrow found its way into our nets. An exciting bird for me that I haven't banded since 2018 in Utah, which was quite the common capture out there. Here at KIBS, its not even an annual capture.

We also had a very interesting Common Yellowthroat individual today. This bird actually had a greater covert molt limit, which I have never seen in a warbler before! You can see the old, juvenile coverts that have rusty or buffy (off-white) tips and are shorter than the replaced coverts to their left and closer to the bird's body. This means this bird was probably from a very late brood so it did not have the time to molt as far as the vast majority of hatch year warblers before having to take off on its migration.
