Captain Sam's:
Today was a great day! We caught a total of 90 birds! Only 19 of those birds were recaptures. We had such a diversity of species today. We surprisingly recaptured the Black-throated Blue warbler that was banded on Tuesday, caught a Yellow-breasted Chat and a Palm Warbler. What is even more exciting today, we captured our very late but due first of the season Eastern Screech Owl! I was really hoping that eventually we would catch one but didn't think it would take this long. I'm glad that we captured it before we would be leaving the station. It was so cute, looking like it still needed that extra cup of coffee.
Just look at that adorable grumpy face! It was such a darlin and flew away just shortly after taking this photo. I was so glad I could get a good shot!
On another good note, this Orange-crowned warbler pictured below was a recapture. I got to digging and found out this bird was banded in the winter of 2020! It is such a treat to capture birds that were previously banded here.
