Quiet August Morning

 Captain Sam's:

Hello! My name is Maia, and I'm a new member of the KIBS crew. Today is my third day working at Kiawah and each day has been a blast! This morning was a lot quieter in comparison to my first-two days here; we captured 10 new birds and 5 recaps of 9 different species this morning.

Despite the slow day, the crew was able to find ways to pass the time and check out the wildlife. We took a short break by the Kiawah River, where we found hermit crabs hiding in every shell and got glimpses of Bonnethead Sharks and dolphins.

My personal favorite capture of the day was the Brown Thrasher. This was my first time seeing one in the hand, a recap adult looking extra scruffy and missing its entire tail. Another nice capture from today was an adult Blue-gray Gnatcatcher that was caught towards the end of the day, looking clean with its bold black-and-white tail.
