Captain Sam's:
After catching nearly 100 different Gray Catbirds here at Captain Sam's yesterday, we weren't expecting to catch many different species today. We were pleasantly surprised when a first-of-season showed up in net 29 - a Marsh Wren!
We still caught 45 different catbirds today, and ended the day with a solid 71 birds captured. We anticipate that the next few days will be slower, until the next cold front hits.
Little Bear:
Those nice days of the cold front have left us longing for cooler days again. Even though the temps have been pretty consistent this season, those few days really set our comfort level to 60’s-70°. With the heat comes a drastic slowing down of birds in the nets, so today was a fairly early day for us, especially for it being October. I’d say our most notable bird of the day was probably an Indigo Bunting or another Tufted Titmouse!
