Today was a relatively slow day however, we had a decent diversity of 11 species across our 19 captures. Having never banded in the eastern United States, a highlight species for me was the yellow-billed cuckoo. This normally secretive bird can prove to be somewhat difficult to get a good look at in the field, so it was a special treat to have in hand.
We also experienced the king tide rolling into our station with water up to our banding table. Nearly all the trails between our nets were flooded with water almost to our knees, yet we trudged through them determined to band birds.

LITTLE BEAR
Multiple unfavorable conditions caused us to have our slowest morning of the season. We've been dealing with high water levels for a few days now, which means we have the nets higher than usual and miss out on birds moving at lower levels in the vegetation. Today was one of our windiest too, and we were only able to have about half of our nets open, severely limiting our capture potential. We managed to catch 5 birds of 4 species before closing early due to heat and sun.
