Captain Sams:
It was a cool morning at Captain Sam's after the rain. The nets were soaking wet and it took an extra 20 minutes to get them shaken out and dry enough to remain invisible to the birds. The morning was a little less than steady, but the recaptured birds took the stage. 14 individuals were recaps and 8 were new. However, we caught another new Summer Tanager, which had a very subtle A1 molt limit, allowing us to call it a hatch year. We had a female Black-throated Blue Warbler and a nice after second year, female Painted Bunting. Among the recaptured birds, there were White-eyed and Red-eyed vireos, 2 Ovenbirds, and multiple Prairie Warblers and Northern Cardinals. We are still getting some nets fixed to prepare for a good wave to come tomorrow!

Little Bear:
Early morning rains led to a slow day at Little Bear today. We caught a total of 6 birds, 3 being new and the others recaptures. This lull in action gave us a perfect opportunity to work on clearing trails and a net lane for the movement of one of our nets, number 25. We got this work done in a short time and are hoping that it will catch some birds off guard tomorrow.
The Fall migration forecast is also heating up across the continental United States, but precipitation is keeping some of that action from us here in South Carolina. Hopefully, we'll see the push of some of those migrants into our area near the end of this week, and perhaps some busier days!
