FOS: Scarlet Tanager

Southerly winds for most of the last night slowed down migration a bit but we still banded 47 new birds and had 17 recaptures of 15 different species.  A majority of the species we banded today are the same suite of species that we have been encountering for the past week or two.  However, we did band a new species for the 2013 fall season:  a Scarlet Tanager!

A carbon copy of today's weather is predicted for tomorrow so I am not expecting  huge numbers of birds.  In addition, Tropical Storm Karen is looming in the Gulf of Mexico and is projected to come ashore in Mississippi.  If that happens, it could bring us some rain and wind for the weekend which will not be favorable for banding.  We'll have to wait and see what happens.
