CAPTAIN SAM'S
Today was almost a carbon copy of yesterday with 21 new birds and 19 recaptures of 11 species. The weather was almost perfect for mist netting birds with overcast skies and little wind. Unfortunately, it was warm and there was little bird activity around the banding site. Gray Catbirds were noticeably absent today with only one captured. I don't believe they vacated the area - they'll be back. There's a cold front coming through early tomorrow morning, and I am hoping that the cooler temperatures and favorable winds will bring some new birds to the spit.
Late season banding always produces interesting recaptures. Several of the recaptures from today were originally banded in previous seasons.

Kristin, Josh, Kandace, and Ben left Kiawah today for their next adventure. Nate will be out with me tomorrow and after that I will be finishing up the rest of the season by myself. I was blessed with a wonderful team of banders this year. I wish them all the best of luck in their future endeavors!
