Today was a slow day at Captain Sam's as we only captured 5 new birds and 4 recaptures. As the day progressed, it became hotter with little wind. We also captured a beautiful after hatch-year female Ruby-throated Hummingbird. The bird of the day for me was the Traill's Flycatcher. I think that they are a unique species that mainly feed on insects. Hopefully tomorrow will have more birds!

Little Bear
We did not do much better out at Little Bear with 10 new birds and 1 recapture of 4 different species. We continue to recapture the same two to three young carolina wrens that have not yet learned where the nets are located. We did capture our first-of-the season Ovenbird at the site on the first net run. I spent more of my time extracting cicadas than birds as they were flying everywhere and making it hard to hear at the banding table. I always love hearing their chorus even though it means it is going to be a hot day!
