North winds brought in some cooler temperatures (72℉) and lower humidity making for a comfortable morning at the banding station. Unfortunately, in the south in August that comfort doesn't last very long and by 10:30 am, it heated up and became steamy again.
We did not get the push of migrants that I was hoping for but we did band many more warblers today and by the end of the morning we had banded 45 new birds with 13 recaptures of 12 different species. We did get the first-of-the-season American Redstart with 5 banded today. I almost predicted in yesterday's blog that we would get our first redstarts today. Instead I decided to be wrong and predict that we wouldn't recapture the Red-eyed Vireo - which we did.
The highlight of the day was a Worm-eating Warbler. Last year we only banded one Worm-eating Warbler and that was out a the Little Bear banding site.
