It was a windy day at Captain Sam's, but we persisted and managed to keep all but one of our nets open. We were rewarded with a first of season Eastern Phoebe! We also enjoyed banding five new Northern Parulas, including this after hatch year male below.

Little Bear:
It was also very windy at Little Bear today. We had to keep a close eye on all of the nets to make sure they weren't blowing around too much. There were four nets that we never even opened, and by our last net run, we only had 8 nets left open. Yet, it still ended up being a great day! We processed a total of 45 birds, including two exciting first-of-season species: the Nelson's Sparrow and the Pine Warbler!
Certain Nelson's Sparrow and Saltmarsh Sparrow subspecies look very similar, so we took some extra measurements and photos to confirm that it was in fact, a Nelson's Sparrow:
